sorry for replying that late. I wasn't sure whether you wanted an answer or just tell us your opinion
There was a discussion about playing the movie during file-loading but the idea has been dropped. I'm not sure about the reasons any more but I think there was a design problem about the way SDL is initiated during that splash and the video. So basically a hack for this would be welcome. Jafuli did a good job on the mve player implementation so there is no problem to play the original mve (if it has been installed by the resinstaller, of course)
