Amusingly enough, that same day I actually emailed Interplay about an HD remake of MAX, and I got a reply!
"Dauss,
Thank you for the suggestion. I've already asked our executive team
about an updated version of M.A.X. previously. It's a wonderful game.
I'll be sure to pass your message on to them."
Seems we've got other M.A.X. fans in the world, and they work for Interplay.
I would encourage everyone to Email Interplay customer service and tell them you want an HD remake of M.A.X. If they get enough attention, they might just consider it. Be sure to post any responses you get as well!
