Subject: What do you mean "We're lost"?

Hi,
I present "the infantry"

I'm still working on some details and it's really difficult to work on those because I can't make use of textures or meshes and bones here. I consider learning another tool for this but I'd say it's good enough for the free alternate graphics set for maxr. I did some test rendering for the unit's video as well:

In my opinion is this the most difficult unit I have to remake for maxr. It's one thing to model a tank - a completly other thing to work on a human figure that should look realistic as well later. Beside the fact that all this is completly new to me Shy

It is a very good approximation of the original! In the unit movie, maybe you can make the trooper kneel, aim, and fire his launcher (just for fun!).

Iz done.. and so are my nerves No comment

Every animation for infantry types is 104 single images.. rendered, scaled, pimped and recoloured (for player colours in game). The animation still sucks and is somewhat crude but I won't do any better until the free graphical set is done completly.

Total amount of pictures for 2 infantry types: 272 images + various test renders. I even run out of disc space and wondered why apps kepts crashing Laughing

It looks nice! Out of curiosity, are you guys using a different FLC format? Quicktime is not able to play your FLC files correctly.

naw. quicktime sucks and so do most flc players. There are about 12 or 14 different flc headers and most players do only know the most common ones. That gave me headache I can tell you. Even the gimp plugin didn't take care of all of them. The flcs produced by gimp crashed maxr on windows and the flcs didn't play in the original max as well. Artlav wrote his own flc converter for max gold. Since we don't use the original colour palette he changed it a bit for us to produce simply optimized palettes. That way my flcs can be played in the max, maxr and maxg - win win Smiling

Excellent work! Made me laugh. Laughing

Being a noob, I have to ask: What do you use for your 3D app? Blender?

no, wings3d is just fine for me Smiling

there are some things wings doesn't feature and that are primary bones and meshes (no animations) and the texture support.. never mind. Easy to learn, free, opensource and fair enough for my purposes.
