Subject: Playing M.A.X on Windows XP Hello I have just started playing M.A.X again after finding this site - hugely frustrated that I could not seem to get the original game working under XP. Thanks to everyone for their phenomenal efforts in the port tio M.A.X reloaded - it is awesome I would like to combine playing the original game and at the same time M.A.X reloaded - I was wondering if anyone had any tips in terms of windows XP configuration to get the original M.A.X game working? I have the original Game CD and have loaded it up - but I can't seem to get the DOS environment working and the game never launches - i have tried looking for tips on the forum but can't find any Do you have any thoughts on how to the original M.A.X running under Windows XP? Many thanks |

Subject: Re: Playing M.A.X on Windows XP you'll probably need "VDMSOUND" to run MAX on XP. you can also give "dosbox" a try. It works nice on Windows. I don't get what you mean with "playing Reloaded at the same time like MAX". |

Subject: Re: Playing M.A.X on Windows XP Hi beko Thanks for the tips - had a go with Dos box - literally dragging the maxrun.exe over the dos box shortcut and hey presto it works - however the patch 1.04 I downloaded off this site has made my MAX install select German as the language - whereas I go back to the MAX CD and its English - do you know how I can get the 1.04 patched version to revert to English? What I meant by playing both MAX and MAXr was to have separate installations of the two so I could choose Many thanks |

Subject: Re: Playing M.A.X on Windows XP about patch: sorry, I don't have the englich version. Maybe "Sal" has it. You may PM him. > What I meant by playing both MAX and MAXr was to have separate installations of the two so I could choose Why not? Both are completly independent of each other. Sorry but you're asking me whether you can install firefox beside opera or something like that |

Subject: Re: Playing M.A.X on Windows XP Hi Beko Thanks for the update - trawling around on the web I found this site - which kind of answered all my playing MAX on XP questions as well as giving me an English version of the patch http://tauronr.forma-dz.hr/...bgeg6.html Thanks for all your help |

Subject: Re: Playing M.A.X on Windows XP You can MAX on Windows XP using VDMSound version 2.1.0 (this version has a easy-to-setup interface) I'm looking for people to play the original MAX on the internet, but the IPX network prtocol turns everything harder. How can I setup an IPX connection with other computer? |

Subject: Re: Playing M.A.X on Windows XP Dosbox can do that. There's a http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/m_a_x_m_a_x_2 offering MAX with dosbox and easy setup for 7$. The support isn't however very stable from what I read. |

Subject: Re: Playing M.A.X on Windows XP I've had trouble getting the original M.A.X. game to run on ANY system using Windows XP that had a multi-core processor. Try running the game on an older computer if you're using a dual, tri or quad core processor. Sorry I don't know anything about how the game works internally, but its the best I can contribute. =) |
