we played a lot in "the old times" and now also with the new maxr. long time the "good old missile range game" took often the victory in the beginning. later also the gunboats rush was very nice.

for me key things to win the game and not to let happen somebody get a too high range with his missile launchers are:
- aggression - keep your enemy busy (attack is the best defense)
- be quick - the sooner u have a serious army to attack the better
- know as much as possible about your enemy but let him know as little as possible about u. the sooner u have awacs, scouts or submarines watching his moves, finding his weak spot the better u can adapt your strategy but also try not to let him know too much about u.
- combined strategy is nearly a must to beat a good player, but it's sometimes tough to balance the right amount of units to be effective

i also prefer more and more land maps, cause it gives more room for different strategies.

Yeah, I totally agree gurudon. If you've managed to allow your enemy to obtain maximum range on their missile crawlers then you've already caused massive problems for yourself and probably not played well up to that point.

I'm not entirely sure that land maps are the way forward because you can often go a long way to countering the missile crawler threat with naval units (through stealth, speed and pure numbers) - particularly with missile cruisers which can follow the same upgrade path but take a more unorthodox line of attack.

You can also preempt a ranged missile attack with a mine laying strategy, but you have to guess where the attack will come from as you'll spend the whole game laying mines which is not a good idea!

One of the guys I play against regularly uses the missile crawler strategy, so I'll keep trying to work out the best counter for it!
