Here is a list of random map generators for M.A.X. , MAxGold and maxr.
The Russian max community created some neat tools
For download go here and here through the Google translator

Basically they are two versions ->

One from Artlav and one from Barloggg
(Of course there are Mapeditors too! check out "Map Editor for MAX 1.0 by - Peter (550Kb, zip)")

Very nice random map generator. You have plenty of options to create a map; a map viewer, 3d preview mode- even a hand-draw mode.
You need the Generator itself and the title sets for it too. This one can create WRLs for the original MAX which you can use for maxr!

You can choose the map size! (224x224 and bigger are no problem ). You basically define the land,island, size and dense and GO
Damn good!

I know its not explained in detail, but i wanted to give a small overview for anyone who don't wanna crawl, with 5 steps per turn, through all the threads =D

I worked on our editor today and v0.2 is coming up:

I completely rewrote the classes to use a different approach and to get a clean schema. It no longer operates on binary data (WRL files) but imports WRL to a database resulting in a lot of faster operations because the map consists basically of numbers and images only. Both can now be cached and delivered to any WebGL enabled browser (that'd be any modern browser nowadays). It's very fast since any work is done on the client side and uses the GPU for rendering. The server is only needed to collect the data during saving and to generate the WRL file again when the map is done (or to be tested).

I updated the underlaying Three.js library to the latest version (that was quite some work) and ironed out some bugs that the first demo always had. For now I'm really happy with the work done.

improved drawing (faster), fixed unknown tiles after using undo-button, using strict js now, show selected tile id, hovering tile id and cursor position on map.
