Subject: How to extract max.res?
As current marvelous verion of MAX Reloaded has graphics and speaches in German I would like to replace them with the originals from max.res.
How can I extract this file?
I found a link to some russian program but it was dead.

First of all, welcome at our board!

You will find the resource extractor of the Russian club here:
http://maxthegame.de/...=Downloads
You will need the file "somemaxtools_gc.zip".

But the menus in MAX-Reloaded schould be in english if you have set the the language setting in the max.xml to "ENG"

For the englisch speach files, just look in your MAX-directory. The .wav files with 'F' and then three numbers are the speeches. But you have to find the right ones and rename them Wink

However I must say I am not a new one to MAX (I played it since 1996) nor to the forum (I have had an account here 3-4 years ago just forgot the password. I also talked a lot on ICQ with Sal about making a win version of max with the Russians, but I doubt he remembers ;).
Two or three years ago I played MAX for the last time and yesterday evening I just had a thought that maybe somebody came out with the windows version of MAX. The thought seemd insane but yet it was true!
What an amazing thing you have done!

Anyway... I unpacked max.res but all I got is bunch of files with no extension at all. Apart from sounds I would like to replace some PCX since in your version they seem to be taken from some early beta(?) - many of them look like some early verions of those in the original game.

As I played Reloaded last night I think I found a bug. I was unable to build a mining station over the sea even though there was a platfrom already...

And one more question - when is the new version of MAX Reload expected to be released?

OK after you have extracted all files from the max.res, you have to convert the files to normal, readable bitmaps. To do this, there must be the programm "MAXgConv.exe" in the archive somemaxtools, too. In this Programm you can select the folder with the unpacked files, look at them and save the necessary ones to bitmaps. Afterwards just convert them with a normal image editor to .pcx-files and it should work Wink

If you find bugs, you can just put them into the bugtracker (you can find the link in the announcement at the top of this site). This will help a lot to us!

Edit: we cannot say exactly when a new version will be released, but the last version has been released just a five days ago, so i think it will take a litle time.

I just spent 120 turns playing against a computer when I discovered that there is no computer player. Smiling
Will further releases include possibility of playing against a computer?

It isn't realy sure if there will be an AI in the game. First of all we will get the game playable without bad bugs in singleplayer and then network will be included. After all this is working maybe we will work on an AI computer opponent, but at this time it is too much work. Especially becouse you can play the original game by interplay against an computer, but not in network.

To talk from me I want to see AI one day in MAXR but first and primary task is TCP/IP since what we want all is playing MAX against humans over the internet, right? Smiling

Impactor: We release in very short circles at the moment. I hope it's only a question of weeks for the next release. About the graphics: These are not "old". Graphics are new because they were made by me to prevent copyright-issues with original graphics by Interplay. You don't have to like them but they'll stay (maybe I'll improve 'em) in our version. I kept them as close as possible to the original look. However I hope we'll soon be able to provide the function that will optionally make use of the original graphics automatically.

Thanks to autosave I could resume Smiling Please please report any bugs you find on the tracker. Everybody can create new tickets without registering and this way we don't forget to fix it.

Yeah, playing against AI in dos MAX is nice but once you get past round 200 it becomes quite impossible. Everything becomes impossibly slow and finally crashes. Loading autosaves does not help.
I've just been trying to run the old MAX but I cannot. I keep getting this message whether I run maxrun.exe or using VDMS:

Anyone solved such problem before?

Beko: Great job with the alternative graphics. I didn't mean I don't like them, I was just used to the originals.
I played 120 but with 5 or 7 autosave loads due to crashes. I guess it's normal and common so I didn't report it. However, I reported few other bugs so far. I am really glad I can have even modest input to this project.

And I'm not sure what PK is Smiling
