Subject: MAX 2 question
Hi guys, I found this site by trying to search for the mouse cursors I had from MAX 2. I was given them by Erik Bethke when I was beta testing MAX 2 for interplay. Sadly I lost them a few years ago and all the ones I've found on the net (including here) are not the same.

Would anyone know how to extract the cursors from the game?

Thanks.

The .res format of MAX and MAX2 (where the cursor gfx can be located) is known. You should be able to extract the cursors from that. I don't have a nifty description at hand but you can always check the source code of our "resinstaller" dealing with the res file of MAX. There are only minor changes. Unfortunately not many people here care about MAX2 so you'll probably have to write an extractor on your own here.

Ok thanks for the reply. I know most never liked MAX 2 because of the bugs. When I was testing it they put it out before we even played multi. I had used your tool to extract the RES file but after that didn't know what to do.

Thanks anyways.

Hi Merlin,

there are tools from the russian to extract the resource files. You can get them here. You will need to extract the MAX.res file with the tool "res2unpack" into a folder and afterwards you can use the tool "MAXgConv" to convert the graphics to normal BMP files.
I never did this for MAX 2 but it should be the same as for the first part of MAX.

MAX 2 was an awesome game. I tried MAX but couldn't get into the turn based aspect. I do own both game legit though. The MAX 2 beta got me into the StarFleet Command Alpha and Beta tests

me neither. the simultaneous one rocks however Smiling

Well, with all the bugs of MAX2 we had to fight with another no-go here in Germany: The audio. Translation sucked, voice actors sucked, taunts very only annoying. This, and other flaws, ruined MAX2 for most people here. You're the one of hundred liking Max2 I met Wink

Yes, I am one of a few who like MAX2. Translating a game isn't easy and costs lots of money I'm sure.
