Subject: How to extract max.res

Hi all,

my max.res causes resunpak.exe to crash. I am using Windows XP.

What could it be? I am unable to extract the necessary files (although there are already a lot of sparse files in the MAX directory)

So I cannot play MAX Reloaded - which I would like to use to play over net.

Can somebody please point me to the sourcecode of resunpak? Maybe I can fix it.

It would also be great if you could post a sticky thread or a wiki page about max.res extraction

First of all welcome at our board legolas558,

This is a Thread about the extracting the max.res:

But I can say you that extracting the files from the max.res and make them ready to be used ba MAX-Reloaded is al lot of work. First we use *.pcx-files and not *.bmp and the second is that we don't use the same images, what means that they are modified for our use.
One of our developers, Eiko, is working on a "res-installer" which should extract all files out of a max.res file and install them to your MAX-Reloaded folder, but he hasn't finished his work yet.
To get the files anyway you can download the unoffilcial package of MAX-Reloaded. (See the Thread of MAX-Reloaded 0.1.5). In these package you will find all files witch are needed by the game.

But an other point is, that you cannot play MAX-Reloaded over net. Just singleplayer (what realy means SINGLE, whitout AI ) or Hotseat are working yet.
Making game playable over TCP/IP is in progress.

as Doc already pointed out you should read MAX Reloaded 0.1.5 Release

The "Reshacker" is not written by us but from the russian community. Theres a link in the navbar of our bbs.

The "Resinstaller" is written by Eiko as subproject to MAXR - our project. However the installer is not yet finished and wasn't released for public yet.

As for the wiki: There is currently no international portal since this website started as a DE-project. I am working on this and hope to provide an international platform for max and maxr soon. Feel free to stay and become part of our fast growing community right now

Thank you guys, I finally got to extract max.res (the copy from abandonia seems to not work with resunpak.exe)

I understand that it is not yet possible to use M.A.X.R. to play over network...so my quest ends up for now

I hope to help this nice project in a way or another!

We're working on the TCP/IP part It has a very high priority.

@Eiko: Please download the max version from this abadongames website and check with your resinstaller. I wonder what difference we have here.

In the Version from abadongames all .flc videos are missing.

All all other files are extracted correctly.

hm, afaik maxr runs without the video files. The Videowindow is then left blank.
Unsightly, but is works.
