Subject: Installing M.A.X.R. Instructions?
I'm not a programmer, by any means. I just like playing video games, haha. So to my knowledge, I download M.A.X.R. and try running the first thing I see that says 'Install' or that is a valid .exe application thingy. If I'm doing it wrong (which I'm about 32423409823432% sure I am heh), could someone possibly point me in the right direction? This project looks amazing, M.A.X. is my all-time favorite game and I'd love to see what this project really has to offer!

Hi Macil Smiling

First you need the original game data. Download the inofficial Packet from here:
http://maxthegame.de/bbs/showtopic.php?id=218

Second you need the sdl runtime libraries. Download the required SDL-libraries and install them to your system32
directory - e.g. c:\windows\system32

http://www.libsdl.org/projects/SDL_mixer/release/SDL_mixer-1.2.8-win32.zip

Beside that there _are_ serveral READMEs included and even on the website under the link Download you can find the menu item "installation" which describes everything userfriendly. You just have to open your eyes and read.

be*why the hell do I translate all this shit*ko

Oh cripes! This is really embarassing. I see the Installation button now on the menu. I thought right above it 'Manual' meant like, documentation on how to install it and when I saw nothing I became confused! I thought nothing of the second link marked 'installation' because I thought that was a download for the game itself which I already had found a link elsewhere to download!

Sorry. I guess I should have done more clicking. =(

I see. Perhaps I should move the installation item over the manual. That could make sense.. hm... Smiling

Maybe you could reword it to say like 'Play Manual' to be more specific? Its probably not too big of a deal. I'm sure not many other people have had issues with it. I'm just not known for my brilliance at times. Grinning

Greetings, Folks!

I justr stumbled across this page and have been instantly reminded of this terrific game I once was quite obsessed with (back in 1996, when it was shiny and new). So, thrilled by the possibility of reliving the glory days, I downloaded the tiny (~5 MB) installation file which even started with the old familiar screen, but alas! It stopped prematurely with the following message: "loading vehicles ... ERROR! Check maxr.log.
Needless to say, I did as I was commanded, but sadly enough I am no *real* Nerd, and therefore maxr.log is just gibbergabber to me - or, rather a list of files from the original game..

Then I looked for further possibilities and finally discovered, that abandonwaregames provides another version. Sadly, that one wouldn't even allow me to begin the installation, because my shiny new PC works on a 64bit basis, while the game needs 16bit.

Having no real clue what to do about the matter I hereby turn to you, the Masters of this site. Please enlighten me with your infinite wisdom and make that I can once again enjoy the rapture that is M.A.X.!
Please?
Pretty please?

I am, and shall remain, yours

Hi Falkenhayn!

First of all: which version do you want to play? MAX Reloaded or the original MAX?

speaking about MAX Reloaded: which packet (version, exe or rar) did you try? Did you run the resinstaller?

Obviously you didn't read the INSTALL carefully. The hint for you is that you need to run resinstaller to copy graphics and sounds needed by maxr from an original cd (or the abadon version you may have downloaded). For this you don't have to install the original - just point the resinstaller to the cd source or whatsoever.

This version is an very old testing version of the original M.A.X. - don't get fooled by the version number. Some videos and music is missing too.
