If I'm understanding you correctly, you sound like you want the same thing I do.

I've only played MAX multiplayer twice for real. Lost on the first one, won the second one - this game stresses me out like no other.

I have just found out that this project might be superfluous. There's a website, http://www.gog.com , which will offer MAX 1 and 2 as a packaged deal, somehow made compatible with WinXP and Vista, and rumored to have TCP/IP compatibility.

I'm trying to find out more.

uhm guys... keep it low. That looks like some sort of "game + specials + p1mp3d dosbox emulator = ready to go exe". It's a nice idea especially becasue you can actually really "buy" and "own" the game itself without drm and copy protection but honestly.. speaking for M.A.X. this is already all here. M.A.X. works just fine with dosbox (or dosemu on linux). We brought together the specials of the discs as well like background pictures, sounds, patches and walkthroughs and there are some wiki articles about dosbox/dosemu floating around as well.

I absolutly doubt that they can cast TCP/IP support out of nothing. I guess if they want to make multiplayer over TCP/IP possible they'll make use of some sort of IPX tunneling like Khan(?) Central did it in the older days.

Proof me wrong but I think you're exaggerating here.

Oh, I don't doubt you're right. DOSBox already does the TCP/IP thing for MAX.

hmmmm...

neat Grinning I'm not up to date with dosbox since it doesn't work very good on linux (well, it does but it's a cpu-heater compared to dosemu).

Well, that leaves you with M.A.X. and out of sync as usual I'd say.

Duke started a project to analyze the IPX traffic to repeat messages in case they are lost but I didn't hear any news about that. Actually I don't even think that the out of sync is caused by a lost message. I'd put my money simply on "forgotten" messages that are never sent.

Quote:
MAX 1 is using DOSBox and its possible to play this game windowed just by using Alt+Enter.
MAX 2 isn't using DOSBox. This game can't be played in window mode.

MAxrun.exe 1.04

26. March 1997, 01:04:00

Since I already have MAX and DOSBox, and never liked MAX2 anyways, I guess I'll pass.

Why pay for something you already have, right?
