Subject: Landing site buildout
Different buildout statagies and what u take planetside to begin with.
What do u do any why. Discuss.

Gold permitting i like to take 2/3 constructors down and set up a primary combat factory (h.land or air) and a power station straght off, then try and get a couple more mining stations in place before enlarging militery capacity and support buildings.
I usually take at least 2 engineers down to begin with and keep a healthy >1:1 ratio of engineers : constructors during the game.

Of course stratergy must be kept fluid and adapted to suit the needs of the map / what opponants do.

nice topic
Well, what buildout strategies I use and what I take planetside depends very often on the opponents I get.
If I know that I have some time to build up my base before an enemy attacks, I know I can play very relaxed.
2 engineers are very important imo, one is never enough. Its different with a constructor, 2 are nice but luxuriously too. One scout for some scan range and a pimped assault gun. Assault guns can be "healthy" for fast defense and offense action that might occur, I just love them.
at times...even two surveyors ;D good for fast expanding ...anyway

Its a bit different with an small map and a very aggresive opponent. I buy supply trucks and fill them up max to gain a small speed advanteges in the first rounds. 2 engineers but only one constructior with a fast production goal.

The first thing I do after the landing is enlarging the base and get a better view of the territory, means a radar, maybe some low level defense. Surveying for more resources and build some mines fast (high priority) or you get in trouble soon with not enough raw material etc.
A Heavy Vehicle Plant or something like that are always behind in my strategy, they have a minor priority.
I like to play "Von griffin" cause of the +2 experience in taking units from the enemy.
oh and one thing...land mines are very effective and I like to place them randomly at the beginning.

yeah thats the way I used to play, have to do it again soon against human opponets, cause its alot different.
;D

So do I Smiling I simply love the assault gun. Even it's design. It's one of the best units max offers, imho Smiling

I also love to do a lot of damage with infantry. Attacking and defending. Together with a well armored APC my infantry is known for hit'n'run attacks where you don't expect it. I even use them to counter missile crawler "death from above" attacks.

As for building up? Depends. I usually start the classic way. Light factory. Huge. Perhaps sea and air. Bad way against offensive opponents like Nager Wink

There's a good idea that I hadn't thought of before, filling supply trucks to take down to boost the buildout capacity Grinning

Same here. Moreover in aggressive beginnings they can be dispatched to conveniently reload the ammo of the military units.

That's smart. It's bit similar to bringing crawlers by air transport so they don't lose fire points. Usually, how long can you run the APC before it gets blasted?

In my buildups I tend to favor construction and survey, which means I can be weak during the first few turns until I build turrets and missile launchers. Needless to say, I hate it when I land close to an opponent who's put all his starting money into offensive units. Such configurations look like a paper-scissors game, or a dice game.

Depends. Some hitpoints, armor and speed updates and they can get really far. Even stealth under water. The real question is how many shots do you need to take 6 infantry and 1 well armored APC down Wink 3 APCs full infantry can be a pain in the ass Wink Ignoring them to long can be a failure too, especially when you have some attack and range updates on the infantry as well. See here:

I don't have many screenshots of infantry in action but I love to pick an unguared or only minor protected mining station at the enemys back with a surprising dive up and unload action and be gone before he knows what hit him Smiling

Usually I invest most of my starting credits in construction units, resources and surveyors (e.g. with 150 credits in 3 additional constructors, 1 additional engineer, all fully loaded with resources, a second surveyor and normally one scout). That's kind of risky if I happen to start directly besides an opponent, but in most cases my opponents give me enough time to produce my first combat units.
Then it's good to build a light vehicle plant fast. And one constructor always builds a power station, one another factory (e.g. Air or Shipyard or Heavy) and one builds a mining station on the first found good raw materials resource.

Looks scary. I'll bring out the corvettes! Grinning

There is never enough of those power stations actually. Am I the only one who regularly runs out of power for misplanning?

When I resume multiplayer games I'll have to be more cautious. For the moment I only play a little bit once in a while so only the AI is patient enough to spread a game on a whole week, and the AI never has aggressive buildups.

Take a look at this post. Some entries are on german however. The english ones come later. You'll see however a lot of multiplayer action screenshots from the last 2 years. Worth a look Wink
