Subject: Game Slows Down
Hrmm. So I finally found somebody to play M.A.X. with me longer than 20 minutes (took a bit of searching as unfortunately nobody I know shares my passion for this awesome game).

At any rate. I got beyond 300 plus turns finally so I was able to really see what M.A.X.R. could do. After our bases started to sprawl a bit I noticed the game slowed dramatically. I know the game isn't finished yet so its not going to be perfect but I got to wondering if maybe its my system slowing it down and not the game? What can I do to try to speed the game up the game's performance on my end or see if its my computer at all making the game slow?

I'm eager to eventually try this game with more than 2 people playing but I am nervous and hesitant that the speed with drop to a near unplayable rate with 4 super expanded bases on the field. Has anyone else experienced this?

Rough specs:
Intel Q6600
Geforce 9800 GX2 - 1 GB
2 GB DDR 1333 MHz

Picture of the game:

Keeping in mind that maxr does not use any kind of hardware acceleration I wouldn't complain with that resolution. Your box packs quite a lot I'd say Laughing

Just use a smaller resolution and if things become to laggy turn off alpha or shadow effects.

You can also try the svn version. We had a lot of changes in the drawing code making it faster. Still without acceleration but now you can get more than 10 fps Smiling

What exactly was slowing down? Was it that really everything began to lag? Even the effects and scrolling on the map and so on? If this is the case it was really just an drawing issue and you should reduce the resolution or turn of the effects as beko mentioned.
If only command weren't handled that fast, like you had to wait longer after a click to move a unit until the unit really starts to move or attack and so on the problem could be somewhere else in the game engine.
We have not that much experience with that long games and so many units.
Maybe you can send me the savegame (or post it on the tracker) so i can look what could be the reason and what i can do against it.

if you are using windows, you can download a debung version, build from the current svn revision, from here: http://www.maxr.org/~eiko/maxr-debug-eiko.zip

Just unzip it over your 0.2.6 folder (or a copy of it). Then rerun resinstaller, if you want original sounds. Make sure all players use the same maxr version.
