Alas - I am no longer an approved member. Must mean I haven't donated in a while?!

Guys - how significant would the effort be to port MAXR to Android? With the sudden explosion of cheap (and really good!) Android tablets I suspect that you could get absolutely tons of people interested in playing MAXR again (or for the first time).

What would you need in order to make this a reality and how long do you think it might take? I know we've been here before, but it could be a great way to get people involved.

I haven't played MAXR for a long time but I want to pick it back up again. It would be amazing if it was available on a tablet and as we've discussed before, I guess Android is the most ubiquitous.

How many community members have tablets (iPads, Android devices, Surface, etc ...)? That would be interesting to know too.

I don't have a tablet (or any advanced mobile "smart" device), but playing mobile would sure be fun.
Does anybody know if its hard to port to such a system?

Imagine multilayer games on the train! =D

Ahhh I see I was being stupid. I could access the Dev forum but couldn't post, but I guess that has always been the case. Shy

I am interested in the new Nexus 10 tablet and some friends have the Nexus 7. Quite a few people that I know have these devices and I just wondered how difficult a port would be? I know it's been discussed previously and I think it might just be a case of requiring a few tablets, but it would be an amazing project if there was any way of starting it.

This was the last post that I was involved with for a tablet-based game. It was started by Sandman.

iPad

If it could be made available for Android you would cover half the smartphone market and increasingly huge percentages of the tablet market. Alternatively, might it be more suitable to release a Windows Mobile 8 and / or Surface release?

The Surface Pro will run MAXR natively when it is launched in 3 months time, but it will cost well over £600 which make it a pretty expensive toy to play MAXR on!

Maybe a discussion on cost vs time of doing this could be worthwhile as you might gain some donations and funding as this would benefit many, many people.

I find this idea great :-)

for Android there also is aDosbox, which should run the original very well. (I want to try that out soon)
Personally we have an iPad (1), work-wise I can try/test every iPad there is (even the new mini) and have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1n (with cyanogen mod installed)

maybeageek - Thank you! I can't believe that there is a version of DosBox on the Android platform. That means MAX and XCOM! :-)

I really hope that there's scope for MAXR to be released on Android. You can develop in C++ as well as Java, so the devs might be able to reuse of the code that they already have. I'm not a dev though so I'm not sure how portable the code for the Linux release is.
